Colours and angle with eye contact is great but the crop is a bit too tight I think. Also stopping down a bit more due to the proximity to the subject and paper thin DoF would give you a bit more DoF for the neck feathers to be a bit sharper. Strong effort overall.

FYI, the photo was shot tight, and it's straight of the camera, at least 99% of it coz i crop it to the exact factor of 4 in X 6 in.... well, just to say that it was shot that way. Not much I can do about it now, only way is for me to go back and shoot again.... but hey, thanks for your comment. Tight shots don't always work.... :)

I agree about some breathing space particularly on the beak side... yes, that need more practice. I shall remember to leave more space to it.... :) hehe... do bare with me a little, i'll go back and shoot again, soon I hope.

The Chien, about the stopping down and the proximity to the subject and the DOF thing.... would you please explain a bit further... ?  Errrr..... I can't figure it out exactly lar... :) Pardon me for my stupidity ya....

Well, a bit of photo-chop :) to add canvas will make the birdy feel less crowded. And also some selective USM applied to the subject brought out a bit more detail in the feathers.

No probs, it is no magic. Learn to play with the Patch Tool and Healing Brush Tool. Also learn how to manage Gaussian Blur and add canvas space on your pic. You will do this all quite easily less than 5 minutes.
