Fast skin care using Photoshop

By Les Chang, August 14, 2006 on 11:13 am | In Tutorials |

retouching on skin tones can be really time consuming and frustrating, here’s an option on skin care without colour correction and minimum brush work, it might not work perfectly but it could be really fast, i prefer this method because it doesn’t look “plastic” after retouching.

before:

and after :

ok let’s start with the work,

step 1. create the masks needed from the suitable channels.

1a. we need a mask to protect the dark hairs and less contrast on skin, in this case, red channel, duplicate red channel and apply the high contrast curve adjustment on the channel.

click ok,then invert the channel, your “red copy” channel probably will look like this:

1b. choose the channel which has most uneven tone on skin, in this case blue channel, make a copy of that channel.

apply Filter > Sketch > Photocopy on this channel, adjust the settings accordingly.

invert the channel, your “blue copy” channel should be similar to this

you are done with the first step.

next, step 2:
make 2 copies of background layer.

2a. mask the top layer with “red copy” channel and leave it untouched.

2b. mask the center layer with “blue copy” channel, overlay with “screen” and adjust the opacity (15% ~ 20%, judge with your own eyes)

and your are done.

  2. CTRL click on the copied channel to make a selection (Channels palette), click on the layer mask icon (layers palette) to turn selection a mask on the active layer.
